How I created a blog to get over my Instagram Addiction

Welcome to the Rubbish Cartoon blog! I’ll talk about my creative process, my artist daily life, my inspiration and others things you may find interesting :)

It all began with a sucky algorithm on Instagram, the impossible standards to follow, the pressure to publish everyday, the pursuit of infinite followers… It all became sort of meaningless and unachievable.

Why do I create art in the first place? Is it to please a god-like figure made of 1 and 0, manufactured fo reach and engagement?

No.

It was for people, to get myself out there. To show a part of myself I was proud of to a broader audience. And I thought Instagram was the perfect place. It is after all supposed to be a space specifically catered to share images.

At least it was. It was before the Tik-Tok craze and the sudden urge for everything to be video content. I mean I get it, videos are fun. But when did it all became so bland and mediocre. I don’t want my feed to only be dancing teenagers or weird rants on random subjects I never asked to see…

I want to see content I chose, photos of my favorite creators, original work that I find interesting! Instagram was amazing! So many talented people are on there and it makes me really sad that they are struggling to connect with their audience because a sucky algorithm designed by culturally-deaf people is choosing not to show their content to their followers.

I will still post on IG don’t get me wrong. I still have yet to find a platform that would perfectly showcase and put the spotlight on artists and illustrators so I’ll stick to it I guess. But I have to find another outlet and I think Blog is having kind of a cultural revival (right?).

So all in all this rant is about introducing my decision to create a blog. I really hope to be consistent and make it worth everyone’s while.

I am really excited to share stuff about my creative process, my new life in Lisbon and all the excited things I will participate in!

This is also a really good way for me to keep track of my thoughts and start some kind of journaling.

I hope, if you read this that you’ll join me on this journey!

Let’s get started!
